I was recently invited by the Nevis Tourism Authority to join a small group of agents to discover the island of Nevis, one of the jewels of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. Easily accessible by 10 minute water taxi from St Kitts, or a short hop onward from Antigua, St Barth’s or Puerto Rico, the island offers genuine Caribbean hospitality in a relaxing scenic spot.
An island of rainforests, reefs, and historic ruins, Nevis has something for everyone. Dominating the centre of the island is Mount Nevis, the dormant volcano perpetually cloaked in mist, named by Columbus when he first discovered it in 1493. The serene and natural beauty of Nevis, forms the perfect backdrop for exploring the remains of historic churches and marvellous old sugar plantations on the Nevis Heritage Trail.
Beaches are long and beautiful, whilst the waters around the island are home to 4 species of turtle with good snorkelling options just offshore and diving around wrecks and natural reefs. It’s easy and affordable to hire a car to explore, or why not join a Funky Monkey tour off-roading on hillside trails, for some spectacular coastal views!
